We've Officially Filed!

PetitionFiling.jpgWe’ve Officially Filed

This past Monday, we filed with the Illinois State Board of Elections nearly 2,000 signatures in support of placing my name on the March 18, 2014 Republican primary ballot. This is almost three times the number of required signatures! We are so appreciative of the many volunteers who circulated petitions and enabled us to make such a strong showing on filing day.

Youth Activity

Across the country, we repeatedly hear that the Republican Party must do a better job of reaching out to young voters.  Last Thursday night in Bloomington-Normal, I was able to meet with both the Illinois Wesleyan University College Republicans and the Young Americans for Liberty at Illinois State University. The students expressed concerns regarding the Affordable WesleyanCR.jpgCare Act, their employment prospects in this economy, and our burgeoning national debt. Now, more than ever, young people are recognizing the limits of government intervention and are expressing a greater desire for more freedom and a more limited government.

We were delighted to help organize a Thanksgiving Dinner for the Boys and Girls Club of Bloomington-Normal. It was an evening of food, fellowship and fun for the young people and their families, and we were honored to be a part of it. So many people throughout this district invest their time and talents in serving others, and we are so grateful for the way in which their volunteer efforts strengthen our communities.

As we approach Thanksgiving, may we take time to express gratitude for the love of our families, the blessings of community, and the freedoms of living in this great nation.

For each new morning with its light
For rest and shelter of the night
For health and food
For love and friends
For everything Thy goodness sends.

-Ralph Waldo Emerson

Have a blessed and joyous Thanksgiving,
